Forrest Day at the Independent
Sunday, August 17th, 2008
Whit and I have been following Forrest Day for a long time. He was in the grade ahead of me with brother in high school. His carnival hip hop makes you move and makes you think. The infectious melodies and the distinct sound of a rich horn line and a decisive synth make for a unique and brilliant show. Last night was no exception. This is normally not my favorite “genre”, but there is enough vocal harmony and wordplay to get me psyched and I must admit this is the artist for whom I have gone to more Bay Area shows than any other. Terrell was rockin out on his guitar and the whole band seemed into it. There was a sea of familiar faces in the crowd. Thanks Genevieve, Chiara and Sean for saying hi. I’ll see you at the next show.
